What is the NYCM?

The National Youth Council of Macedonia (NYCM) is a union of organizations where organizations and foundations from the Republic of Macedonia are registered on a voluntary basis. NYCM was established on 29 June 2013 by 55 organizations.

The NYCM is a representative body for youth organizations in Macedonia. NYCM unites 46 organizations, 19 youth organizations, 16 organizations for youth, 1 union, 6 wings of political parties and 4 associate members, in order to promote and advocate for the rights of the Macedonian youth.

The membership of the NYCM is diverse, bringing together organizations working at national and regional level, rural and urban areas, student organizations, branches of international organizations and other types of organizations. In the process of achieving their goals, NYCM represents the interests of young people in Macedonia regardless of their socio-economic status, gender, race, ethnic and cultural background, political and religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other form of difference.

From November 29, 2015, the NYCM is part of the European family of youth organizations called the European Youth Forum (EYF).

YOUTH OF MACEDONIA

The National Youth Strategy 2016-2025 is the only document on youth in the Republic of Macedonia with youth being defined as all young people between 15 and 29.

The youth in Macedonia is very often treated as a problem rather than a huge resource that can make significant and positive political, social, cultural and economic change in the society by reassessing the established norms, values and policies. Standing before a huge rate of youth unemployment, decorative youth participation in various social and political developments, continuing decline in quality of education, almost nonexistent benefits for healthy social, cultural and economic development, the youth in Macedonia follows the trend of mass emigration from their country.

For this purpose, all entities and stakeholders, such as the National Youth Council of Macedonia, institutions at all levels, civil society organizations, the business sector, media, the general public, especially young people should act towards improving the standard of living of young people in Macedonia and building a strong and stable future.
